Photography Backdrops

Decorative tin tiles make practical and attractive photography backdrops. Very affordable, Styrofoam or polystyrene tiles measure 20″ x 20,″ are extremely light weight, and are easy to handle. The majority of the foam tiles come in white but select styles can be ordered with beautiful hand painted finishes and depending on how you value your time, may ultimately save you money.   The white tiles  can readily be painted any color(s) you choose with water-based paints and an airless paint sprayer.  Avoid using commercial spray paint cans since the propellant in the cans may pit the styrofoam.  Styrofoam tiles can be at your doorstep in as little as 3-5 business days.  Personally, we prefer  fairly simple tile styles so that the tiles themselves do not compete with the subject matter of your photography.

In response to demand for this product, and with their typical attention to detail, customer service centric business model,  Decorative Ceiling Tiles has put together 8 tile, 12 tile, and 16 tile packs for your convenience .  Milan offers the following styrofoam ceiling tile packages for photographers to create their own backdrops:

  • Small – 8 Individual Tiles (6 feet 8 inches x 3 ft 4 inches)
  • Medium – 12 Individual Tiles ( 6 feet 8 inches x 5 feet )
  • Large – 16 Individual Tiles ( 6 feet 8 inches x 6 feet 8 inches)

Another option is to use faux tin tiles that measure 24″ x 24″.  With 16 – 2′ x 2′ tiles you can create a 8′ x 8′ backdrop. Faux tin tiles are made from light weight PVC weighing approximately 5 oz each.  They are more durable than Styrofoam tiles but are a bit heavier and more expensive than the plain white tiles, however, they are priced competitively with the hand painted polystyrene tiles.  Delivery for faux tin tiles take a bit longer –  up to 14 business days.  Another advantage of faux tin tiles  is that they are available in a large selection of designer finishes and because they have greater dimensionality, they look much more like real tin tiles without the reflective properties of metal – a huge plus when using  flash.

Both Styrofoam and faux tin backdrops can be attached directly to a wall or if you need a more portable, mobile backdrop, attach individual tiles to a wood board or velcro them to a cloth. Be sure the cloth matches or compliments the color of the tile.

Make it a Beautiful Day!
